Summary: Students explore Spanish culture through music, language, dance, and social customs. The central question explored in the unit is, “How are music and art connected to history, culture and the human experience?”

Grade: 10 & 11
Duration: Three Weeks
Summary: Students explore the essential question, “What types of relationships can be modeled by linear graphs?” Math and visual art are integrated to help students understand how algebraic expressions are used to analyze or solve problems, how real world situations can be represented symbolically and graphically, and how design can be based on mathematical operations.

Grade: 4
Duration: Two weeks
Summary: Students  determine the mood/feeling of a haiku, create a haiku that communicates a particular mood/feeling, and create an original, Jackson Pollock-inspired painting that expresses the mood/feeling of their haiku poem. They share their ideas and reflect on their learning through an artist statement.

Grade: 4
Duration: Over the course of a month
Summary: Students explored the essential question, “What are the qualities of a hero/heroine?” and “How are heros/heroines expressed in story and music and art. In response to the big idea of Courage students create a visual story/movie with a musical accompaniment to represent the actions, words,  and thoughts of characters in their story. Like text, art, music, and video have a language that can provide a lot of information or tell a story.

Grade: 7
Duration: Two Weeks
Summary: As part of their learning about the elements and principles of art, students will discover how the life and times of an artist are reflected in his/her work. They will conduct historical research on the life and times of Wassily Kandinsky and create two original works of art. Students will reflect on their work in prose and poetry.

Grade: 3
Duration: one month
Summary: Students explore many types of codes including musical codes, computer codes, and sound codes. Students demonstrate their understanding of codes by writing different kinds of code for specific purposes.

Grade: 6
Duration: Over the course of a month
Summary: Students used science learning about energy/energy conversion and art to create a Sculptural Windmill that converts mechanical energy to electrical energy. The design parameters included that the windmill met the definition of a sculpture. Function and design framed this student inquiry.

Summary: In this unit, students will learn about patterns in music, visual arts, and 1st grade math.  The students will create a visual regular, repeating, or growing patterns using lines, colors, and shapes . They will construct musical instruments to read, play, and create musical patterns.
