Students observe and explore hyperbola, circle, ellipse, and parabola in their everyday world through math and art. Students will recognize, analyze, and graph the equations of the conic sections (parabolas, circles, ellipses, and hyperbolas) and use the forms to create a sculpture.

Students are introduced to the principle of mathematical nets by describing, classifying, and deconstructing 3-D forms in math and using the concept of nets for designing and creating a form in clay.

The essential question, “Can I be  an agent of change?” was the question explored by fifth grade students as they researched social issues from Minnesota history. Students combined their research and personal meaning of the issue through poetry/image and translated it to a spoken word presentation.
